The Bet Tzedek Holocaust Survivors Justice Network

Our first nationwide initiative was an unprecedented, historic effort that links Jewish social service agencies in a select set of cities with prestigious law firms and corporations to provide free legal assistance to Holocaust survivors applying for reparations from the German Ghetto Work Payment Program.

Bet Tzedek (House of Justice) is one of the nation's premier poverty law centers, with a core mission to pursue equal justice for all. Together, we can protect the legal rights of the poor and create new pathways out of poverty. Founded in 1974, Bet Tzedek is an affiliated agency of The Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angelesand helps low-income people of every race and religion. Bet Tzedek is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.

Manatt, Phelps & Phillips, LLP is known for its relationship-based services and specialized capabilities typically found only in boutique firms. Manatt has been recognized for its progressive and entrepreneurial workplace that values diversity, public service, community involvement and overall excellence.

The German Ghetto Work Payment Pro Bono Clinic Project was conceived by Bet Tzedek and Manatt Pro Bono Directors in collaboration with the Bet Tzedek Holocaust Reparations Project and Manatt special counsel, attorney and rabbi Stan Levy.

This nationwide pro bono project involves Jewish social service agencies around the country working in partnership with over 100 prestigious law firms and corporations. Coordinating Firms have been trained by Bet Tzedek on the A-to-Z of planning and running a model clinic program. We are proud to acknowledge the many law firms and corporations who have dedicated their energy and resources to this effort.
